How to Apply For a Debit Card Online?

Debit cards are great. They make our lives so much easier because once you have a debit card; you can make most of you transactions, whether at a brick and mortar store or an ecommerce website, electronically. It eliminates the need to carry big bundles of cash everywhere that you go. In addition, the debit cards come with reward points and cash back offers using which, you can save up some money on your spends as well.
Most of the times, when you open a savings account, your bank will automatically issue a debit card to you and there would be no need to fill out a separate application. In case your bank doesn’t issue a debit card automatically, you can apply for a debit card online. Here is how you can apply for a debit card online and the steps you need to follow once you get your debit card:
Apply for a Debit Card Online
- You will need to have a Savings or a Current account with the Bank to have a Debit Card.
- While you apply for the account you can either choose a card of your choice or take the default Debit Card that comes with the account
- Existing Current & Savings Account customers can Visit the bank’s website and navigate the different types of debit cards and their features
- Check the rewards and benefits offered by the debit cars before making the final decision
- Once you have selected the debit card, click on ‘Apply Now’
- You will be redirected to a new page where you need to fill the necessary details such as your name, phone number, email id, state and the PIN code
- After filling all the details, submit the form for further processing
- Once you get the card, you need to set the PIN
- After setting up the PIN and the card, you can use the debit card for all transactions
Set up your ATM PIN
Once you receive your debit card, you will need to set up your card’s PIN in order to use it for online transactions. This process differs from bank to bank. Some will send your card’s PIN via a separate post. It is advised to change that PIN by visiting an ATM machine.
Other banks require you to set up a PIN using their mobile app or website. In such cases, just login to your bank’s mobile app, navigate to the debit cards section, and set up your PIN.
Remember to never share you debit card PIN with anyone, not even the bank. Stay cautious of fraudulent text messages asking for your PIN.
