‘Kalai’, as she is fondly called by friends, was always destined to get into boxing. Coached by her father since age 9, she showed promise early on, winning the first state tournament she participated in. Soon, she was winning medals across school nationals and caught the eye of IIS Head Boxing Coach Ron Simms at the 2016 Youth Nationals, where she won the silver medal. In 2019, she was adjudged the Most Promising Boxer of the tournament at the Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship. 20-year old pugilist made her international debut at the 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal, displaying her usual attacking prowess with some dominant victories to bag her first International gold medal.
