Jhai is a rebel soul with a fierce fighting spirit. She was one of the first few girls to take up boxing from her village and defied dogma to come to training every day. She has a younger brother Suresh who also plays squash. They live with their grandparents as both her parents separated and remarried. Her grandparents work as daily wage labourers and take care of the kids. She has recently decided to stop going to school as she has to help her old grandmother with all the housework. They wash clothes and cooking utensils in the nearby lake and gather water from the village well. She is extremely hardworking and wants to become India no. 1 someday soon.
